Our Studio
Architecture shaped by context, craft, and conversation.
Meridian Architects was founded in 2008 by Charlotte Mitchell with a simple conviction: that architecture should serve people first. What began as a one-person practice in a converted garage has grown into a studio of twelve architects, designers, and landscape architects working across residential, commercial, and cultural sectors.
Based in Milton Keynes, we work across the South East of England and beyond. Our projects range from intimate private homes to major public buildings, but they share a common approach — a deep commitment to understanding place, a respect for craft and materials, and a belief that good design emerges through genuine collaboration.
We are not interested in imposing a house style. Instead, each project is approached afresh, allowing the design to be shaped by the unique qualities of its site, its programme, and its people. The result is architecture that feels both inevitable and surprising — buildings that belong to their place while offering something new.
Our Process
How We Work
Listen & Understand
Every project begins with a conversation. We take time to understand your aspirations, the qualities of the site, and the broader context before we begin to design.
Concept & Design
We explore multiple design directions, testing ideas through sketches, models, and digital studies. The strongest concept emerges through rigorous exploration and open dialogue.
Develop & Refine
The chosen concept is developed in detail — materials, structure, services, and landscape are integrated into a coherent whole. Every detail is considered.
Deliver & Beyond
We remain closely involved throughout construction, ensuring design quality is maintained on site. Our relationship with clients extends well beyond completion.
What We Believe
Our Values
Context
We believe the best architecture is rooted in its place — responding to landscape, climate, and culture.
Craft
We value the art of making. Quality materials and meticulous detailing give our buildings their character.
Collaboration
Architecture is a collective endeavour. We work closely with clients, engineers, and communities.
