As traditional retail continues to evolve, this project reimagines a section of Midsummer Place as a mixed-use creative hub combining flexible workspace, independent retail, and community gathering spaces.
Adaptive Strategy
Rather than a wholesale demolition, we worked with the existing structure — stripping back decades of retail fit-out to reveal the raw beauty of the original concrete frame. New interventions are deliberately lightweight and reversible: steel mezzanines, movable partitions, and a central double-height atrium carved from the existing floor plate.
New Uses
The ground floor houses a curated mix of independent retailers and a food hall, while the upper levels provide flexible co-working spaces and studios. A rooftop terrace — previously inaccessible plant space — has been transformed into a public garden with views across the city.
