Set along the edge of Brooklands lake, this residence was conceived as a dialogue between interior comfort and the natural landscape beyond. The clients, a young family with a deep appreciation for modern art, sought a home that would feel both expansive and intimate.
Approach
Our design response was to create a series of interconnected volumes that step gently down the site, following the natural contour of the land toward the water. Floor-to-ceiling glazing on the south elevation dissolves the boundary between inside and out, while the northern facade remains more restrained, offering privacy from the street.
Materials & Detail
The material palette draws from the surrounding context — self-finished concrete, sustainably sourced oak, and zinc cladding that will weather gracefully over time. Inside, polished concrete floors provide thermal mass, while the oak continues as a warm counterpoint throughout living spaces.
The result is a home that feels rooted in its place — a quiet building that listens to its surroundings rather than shouting above them.
