Perched on the northern shore of Willen Lake, this private residence was designed for a couple who wanted their home to feel inseparable from the water. The brief was simple: wake up each morning feeling as though you are floating on the lake.
Relationship to Water
The house extends over the water's edge on a series of slender steel columns, creating the illusion of weightlessness. A cantilevered terrace projects over the lake, providing an outdoor living space that feels suspended between sky and water. The interior is organised along a single axis, with every room oriented toward the lake view.
Materiality
The material palette is deliberately restrained — charred timber cladding, raw concrete, and floor-to-ceiling glass. These materials will age and patina over time, allowing the house to evolve alongside its natural setting.
Willen Lakehouse
A lakeside retreat where architecture and water exist in quiet harmony.
